International Design Day
Each year on April 27, the global design community comes together to celebrate International Design Day, a moment to reflect on the powerful role design plays in shaping how we live, work, communicate, move and connect across cultures and contexts.
2026 theme: the spaces in between
This year’s theme “The Spaces in Between” invites us to look beyond finished object and outcomes, and to focus on the moments and spaces we often overlook, the transitions, connections, and experiences where design does its most meaningful work.
Design has the power to change how people feel in the spaces they inhabit, how welcomed they feel, how seen they feel, and how connected they feel to something larger than themselves.
International Design Day is more than a celebration, it’s a reminder that design isn’t just about making things look better, but about helping our shared world feel more human. In a time of rapid change and constant communication, perhaps what we need most is not more output, but more attentiveness to everything that happens between.
Design lives in relationships, and that’s what this day invites us to honour.
